Reds continue the tradition of having too many outfielders.

The Reds new defensive scheme, or just trying to stay out of Freels way?
The Reds signed Corey Patterson to a minor league contract. This means the centerfield job just got tougher. Freel, Hopper, and super hyped Jay Bruce all had a chance to come away with the it. Looks like Bruce will be heading back to Louisville to me. I won't be surprised to see Patterson leading off on Opening Day (capitalized due to its holiday status), Freel as supersub, and Hopper as a backup outfielder. I also wonder if another trade is in the works, but I can't imagine there is much of a market for a Freel or Hopper type and Bruce is not for sell.

An interesting player still on the free agent market, is ex-Red Kyle Loshe. He has uberprick agent Scott Boras selling his services which may be why he is still a free-agent. However the rumors are Loshe will settle for a 1 year deal for around 5 million. I think this would a great addition to an already improved pitching staff. Loshe can dominate when he is on and is a unappreciated pitcher. He may push a young guy like Bailey or Cuerto out of a MLB roster spot for another year or possibly to the bullpen. I can't wait to see the roster that makes it out of spring training. I really hope to see some young guys thrown into the fire this year. And if they fail....well hey Markers Mark just came out with this.

Edit: After reading a article about the Patterson signing, I found a few things interesting. Patterson's agent is Boras. Dusty claims that they needed bodies with the Jay Bruce injury (which is considered very minor). Patterson was the #3 overall pick in 1998.

It won't be that crowded after the inevitable "Jr." injury. Freel deserves a starting spot.
